The 2023 Nissan Z will star in an upcoming Super Bowl ad campaign featuring Dave Bautista, Black Panther‘s Danai Gurira, Oscar winner Brie Larson, and Emmy Award winning actor and creator of Schitt’s Creek, Eugene Levy. The action-packed, comedy-thriller faux-movie, called “Thrill Driver,” will air during the big game on Sunday, February 13.
Actress Brie Larson continues her role as Brand Ambassador for Nissan in the ad, with Levy joining as the action-hero “Dragon,” Gurira as “Hotshot,” and Bautista as “Pointman. “
The teasers, available to watch on YouTube or the Thrill Driver Nissan website, depict a yellow 2023 Nissan Z chased by motorcycles, a helicopter, and some kind of “Death Race”-style villain car that appears to be a Chevy Camaro or old Pontiac Firebird.
Variety reports game ads are priced at $6 million per 30-second spot this year. Assuming the Nissan ad is only 30 seconds, how many new Zs is the big game ad worth?
2023 Nissan Z Base Price
Lucky for us, a Nissan representative logged into the NissanZClub forum (all the way back in 2021) to correct early claims regarding the 2023 Z’s approximate starting price. The rep confirmed the base price would be “around $40,000. “
We’re excited for what looks like a fun ad, and even more excited at the prospect of seeing more yellow Z cars on the road soon. But for fun, if we were to divide the $6 million 30-second ad buy that Nissan likely paid for airtime by the presumed $40,000 rough base price of the featured car, how many Zs is a primetime Z ad worth?
The raw number comes out to about 162.5, but you wouldn’t sell half a car. Would you? So a 30-second ad spot for the Nissan Z is valued at 163-times the vehicle on screen. And that’s before you consider the production costs of the star-studded advertisement itself. Did we just invent a new metric?
