Nissan has more good news for fans of traditional automatic transmissions: The 2022 Infiniti QX60 will get a nine-speed automatic. This upcoming Infiniti follows the Nissan Pathfinder’s debut, which also did away with the continuously variable transmission.
Nissan also has confirmed that the QX60 will stick with VQ-series 3.5-liter V6 power. This carryover engine will send the same 295 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque to the new transmission, with a choice of either the front- or all-wheel drive. For those keeping score, that’s the identical powertrain you’ll see in the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. Expect to see a similar 6,000-pound max-towing figure from the upcoming Infiniti, too, which is good news for luxe-minded buyers needing to haul a trailer.
Infiniti is opting for a shift-by-wire system to control the upcoming nine-speed automatic. That gives the designers at Infiniti a lot of space to make the shifter and the center console more stylish than what you’d find with a hard-linked setup.
Infiniti has yet to reveal when we’re going to see the new QX60 without camouflage but has confirmed that it will hit the streets before the end of this year. Don’t expect to see a big uptick in price of the starting $44,350.
