The speech came as the Prime Minister moved a motion of no confidence in his government, which it won by 349 to 248 votes. He said: “Some people will say as I leave office that this is the end of Brexit, that the Leader of the Opposition and the deep state will prevail to haul us back into realignment with the EU as a prelude to our eventual return, and we on this side of the House will prove them wrong.”

Boris Johnson has used one of his final addresses as Prime Minister to make a plea to the next Tory leader to resist pressure from Labour and the “deep state” to rejoin the EU.

Appearing before MPs on Monday, Mr Johnson said he was “proud” of his achievements in getting the “big calls” right on the EU, Ukraine and the Covid pandemic.

The speech came as the Prime Minister moved a motion of no confidence in his government, which it won by 349 to 248 votes.
