Remainder of Gold Pan series canceled due to Colorado College COVID concerns – The Denver Post

The remainder of this season’s Gold Pan series was canceled Monday due to positive COVID-19 tests, contact tracing and quarantining within the Colorado College hockey program, the NCHC announced.

The final games between DU and Colorado College, which had been rescheduled after postponements on Jan. 8-9 and Jan. 29-30, were set for Thursday and Saturday on the final weekend of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season. Instead, both teams’ regular seasons end with each playing 22 games apiece — two short of the scheduled 24.

The NCHC will use points-per-game to determine final placement in the standings and seeding for the conference tournament March 12-16 at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.

All four teams at the bottom of the standings are now done with its regular seasons, including DU and CC. DU finishes with 1.409 points per game and will be the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament, while CC will be the No. 7 seed at 0.818 points per game.

Denver and CC ended up playing four times this season, with the Pioneers holding on to the Gold Pan with a 3-1-0 record.
