A man’s body was recovered near Florence River Park on Tuesday, according to Fremont Search and Rescue Inc.
The man went missing on Monday while rafting on the Arkansas River. Witnesses report having seen a man in distress, floating by Florence River Park at noon, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Search crews set off Monday afternoon in hopes of finding the man presumed to be missing. Search efforts were suspended come nightfall, however, due to darkness.
According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, both the body and the raft were recovered sometime around 2:30 p.m. downstream of the park.
If water-related deaths continue at this pace, Colorado could surpass 2020, which was the state’s highest recorded year for drownings. By June 7 of 2020, eight drownings had been reported. The year saw a total of 34.
In 2022, drowning-related deaths have already reached double digits, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
