A cat "screamed" seconds before being killed in a brutal attack after a group of teens set a dog on him.
The unsuspecting family cat was killed in the devastating ordeal on Wednesday.
A Cork family has been left traumatised following the sickening attack which took place in between 10:40pm and 11pm
At night the group of teenage boys set loose a dog outside the Regan family's home in Mayfield, reports CorkBeo.
The boys set the dog, which is believed to be either a lurcher or a greyhound, on the cat as horrified neighbours watched on.
Katie O'Regan said the neighbours heard the screams coming from the cat, named Nacho, and tried to help as best they could.
"One of the boys whistled and the dog grabbed Nacho and dragged him across the field, ripped his throat and killed him.
"The boys laughed and recorded it from the black path. All our neighbours were out because they heard the screams and one of our young neighbours tried to fight off the dog with a stick.
"She was traumatised and was in hysterics apologising because she couldn’t save him. My poor Mam was out in the field on her hands and knees crying and screaming."
'Cat killer' charged after nine pets brutally stabbed to death and disemboweled
The family live in the Corrib Lawn area of the estate and say that they have been left devastated by the sickening attack.
They have appealed to the public for any information they have on who was involved.
"This was our family pet, this can’t happen and we won’t let this go. The boys were 15/16ish with a black lurcher or greyhound wearing a blue collar.
"Someone must know something about who was involved".
