Charles ‘hit beyond hard’ by Harry’s Spare revelations, says King’s biographer

King Charles has been "hit beyond hard" by the revelations made in Prince Harry's memoir Spare, according to his biographer.

Spare, released on January 10, saw the Duke of Sussex discuss intimate aspects of his relationships with the Royal Family.

In one instance he claimed Charles didn't hug him after Princess Diana died and in another detailed an alleged physical altercation with Prince William.

The book followed Harry and Meghan Markle's six-part Netflix docuseries that contained more claims about The Firm.

Gill Knappett, a royal author and biographer of Charles, has opened up about the impact Harry's claims have had on his father.

Appearing as a guest on last week’s episode of the Pod Save The King podcast, she said: "All I can say is, he’s been hit hard, beyond hard, in fact — as any father would be.

"I just think it's a very sad private family matter that has become so public, and I'm really not sure what it was supposed to achieve."

Harry has previously been questioned on accusations that he's invaded the Royal Family's privacy by publicising claims about them.

During his interview with Tom Bradby, which aired on ITV ahead of Spare’s publication, Harry said: “I don’t know how staying silent is ever going to make things better.”

Mr Bradby then asked: “Wouldn’t your brother say to you, ‘Harry, how could you do this to me after everything? After everything we went through?’ Wouldn’t that be what he would say?”

Harry, who claimed in his book that his father begged him and William not to make his “final years a misery”, responded: “He would probably say all sorts of different things."
