New satellite images show several new complexes have been built in the last few years. The complexes are surrounded by unusually high-security apparatus, Mr Sutton noted in an article for Forbes. The fortified complex has anti-vehicle spikes, security fences and a high wall.
Sentry posts and elevated guard towers cover the perimeter between the fence and the inner wall.
This suggests armed guards with rifles.
According to Mr Sutton, these latest developments are part of President Xi Jinping’s multi-billion dollar Belt and Road Initiative to effectively create a shortcut from mainland China into Pakistan.
The Chinese built road linking Pakistan and China is called the Karakoram Highway.
It traverses through the Karakoram mountain range, one of the highest and steepest in the world.
It is believed China is plotting other naval points, namely in the South China Sea, in order to protest trade routes of the future.
The port will allow Chinese goods to shortcut through Pakistan, instead of sailing all the way around South Asia.
The China–Pakistan Economic Corridor is a collection of infrastructure projects that have been under construction throughout Pakistan since 2013.

The Belt Road Initiative infrastructure projects are, on the surface, intended to rapidly upgrade Pakistan’s economy.
Beijing is doing this through the construction of modern transportation networks, numerous energy projects, and special economic zones.
But the main objective of the scheme is to ensure Chinese cargo can be transported overland to Gwadar Port for onward maritime shipment to Africa and West Asia, with an overall strategy for domination of maritime trade routes.
The new sites built by the Chinese in some of the countries that sign up to the Belt and Road Initiative have heavily defended compounds.
The port construction in Pakistan could allow the Chinese Navy to use it as a base that will strengthen their capabilities in the Indian Ocean and across the world.
