Commuters shocked as hundreds of people ride London Underground without trousers

Commuters in London have been left shocked by hundreds of people boarding the tube not wearing trousers.

In a severe deviation from the traditionally awkward Underground code of conduct, people across the city are expected to be baring their legs in the name of a laugh as part of the No Trousers Tube Ride.

It is the first time the tradition has been carried out since before the pandemic, meaning January 8, 2023, is a historic day for people with a taste for going trouserless.

There’s no involvement or membership needed – just hop on the train today without your bottoms on and you can consider yourself a member of the gang.

The aim of the game? It’s a laugh, nothing more, nothing less.

The idea originally stemmed from New York, where people with a passion for pantlessness first came up with the idea of the No Pants Subway Ride in 2002.

The idea then made its way across the pond to Blighty, where The Stiff Upper Lip Society gave it a home on these British Isles.

Speaking to London Live, Ivan Markovic, the founder of The Stiff Upper Lip Society said: “We're not raising money, we're not raising awareness – we're just creating a moment".

"So I think the philosophy is to create a scene. We want people just to smile, to have a positive reaction.

"And the problem is once you start, if you start trying to make a statement or raising money for any charity, someone will always find a reason to object to whatever charity that you choose to support.

"So it's just purely an abstract concept. We just hope to make people smile and to bring a degree of levity into their afternoons on Sunday."
