Coronavirus kills first person in Ireland after patient was quarantined

A patient has been killed by the coronavirus in Ireland – the first to die from the disease in the country.

The patient was reportedly elderly and treated at a hospital "in the east of the country" after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

They first experienced respiratory symptoms before being diagnosed with novel coronavirus.

The victim, who has not been identified, died earlier today, The Irish Times reports.

An update will be given by the National Public Health Emergency Teams at its daily briefing this evening.
