Denver weather: Possible storms Wednesday with drier weather on the way

Stormy afternoon weather on Wednesday could be severe in areas along the Front Range and over the Eastern Plains.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Wednesday and track to the east through the afternoon and into the evening, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

In Denver there’s a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 1 p.m., according to the weather service. Skies will be partly sunny and the high temperature will hit 89 degrees.

On Thursday in Denver there’s a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Skies will be sunny and the high temperature will be 92 degrees, the weather service said.

Drier air from the west starts moving into northeastern Colorado on Thursday, setting up dry conditions on Friday and through the weekend, according to the weather service. A few weak, high-based scattered showers and thunderstorms may linger, producing gusty winds and light rain, but for the most part skies will be sunny and dry.

Denver’s weekend weather will be sunny, with a high temperature of about 94 degrees on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
