Elon Musk believes that his ex-lover Grimes was a figment of his own imagination, it has been revealed.

The tech tycoon is under the impression that he artificially created her, but what's stranger is that she actually agrees with his theory.

The bizarre outburst was highlighted by Vanity Fair journalist Devin Gordon in the three-part BBC documentary.

He said the Canadian singer spoke about it in a recent interview, reports The Sun.

Gordon commented: "She told me repeatedly that Musk has this theory of her that she’s not real, that she’s a simulation who was created by him and exists in his cerebral cortex as sort of the perfect companion to him.

“Which sounds a little crazy and maybe even a little creepy, except, she agrees with it. She said she does feel like this simulation which was perfectly created for him.”

The documentary, which launched this week, interviews ex-colleagues and family members, including his mother Maye – who gives an insight into his "violent" childhood.

The Tesla CEO recently revealed his prototype of a humanoid Optimus robot at his company's AI Day.

Musk said they would target a price of less than £18,000 for the robot, the Daily Star reported.

“It’ll be a fundamental transformation for civilisation as we know it," he said as he explained the importance of his creation.

The robot is designed to do tasks that humans don't want to do and plans to eliminate "repetitive and boring" or even dangerous work.

Musk previously told the Lex Fridman podcast: "It could develop a personality over time that is unique. It's not like all the robots are the same.

"That personality could evolve to match the owner, or whatever you want to call it."
