Traffic camera footage seen down the road from where the car was taken shows Melody Maldonado attempting to stop her assailant by clinging onto the hood of the car, but she was unsuccessful.

Speaking to Mail Online about the incident, the 33-year-old said: "She definitely heard me. I yelled for her to stop and that my kids were in the car.

"She kept driving. We went a good distance, through an intersection, past the Allsup's. She was swerving so that I would fall off. I didn't care what happened to the car. I just wanted my kids back."

Police officers later discovered that the children and the car had been abandoned at an intersection prior to an attempt to flee.

The children have since been reunited with their mother.
