James Bulger’s mum has begged authorities to keep her son’s killer Jon Venables behind bars with the prospect of the convicted murderer being released in days.
Denise Fergus, who saw two-year-old James snatched and killed by Venables and Robert Thompson, both aged 10, says that Venables “still poses a serious danger to families”.
After he was convicted of murder in November 1993 and detained by cops, he was later released at the age of 18 with a new identity.

But Venables was sent back to jail in 2010 and 2017 after he was caught with child sex abuse images on his computer.
Now he has submitted a fresh bid for freedom after serving his minimum 40-month sentence following his request for parole being rejected in 2020.
Heartbroken Denise, 53, told The Mirror she had written to Liz Truss to demand she honours a previous Tory promise to toughen parole laws on dangerous offenders.
She said: “We need the Prime Minister or her new Justice Secretary to step in immediately to make sure my son’s killer stays firmly behind bars where he belongs. We are calling on them to, please, intervene now.”

Denise had previously held meetings with Justice Secretary Dominic Raab, saying: “It felt like the first time ever a politician had listened to me…
“We came away assured our son’s killer would not be coming out.”
But Truss binned Raab days into becoming PM and now Denise is scared Venables will be back on the street.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said new Justice Secretary Brandon Lewis is set to meet Denise in the next week and added: “He shares her desire to reform the parole process to protect the public from the most dangerous offenders.”
