Playground made to look ‘like a penis’ after housing association design gaffe

A red-faced housing association has redesigned a kids playground as their original plan had an area shaped like a massive penis.

The proposed playground design certainly raised some eyebrows after eagle-eyed residents spotted the offending member.

The phallic feature was part of plans for a new kids play area in south west London.

The housing association behind the design failed to consult residents on the project.

It was initially hoped the housing association would discuss the designs with residents but those plans changed, according to Councillor Mo Saqib.

After forwarding the most recent design to his constituents, a trend started to appear.

Cllr Saqib said: “They pointed out that there's a massive penis in the middle.

“I'm grateful that Metropolitan Housing is renovating the playground.

“I posted the playground design on Facebook to get feedback from residents after Metropolitan changed their minds and decided not to consult on it.

“Personally I hadn’t noticed the phallic shape but it certainly caused a lot of amusement. I guess this shows the value of consulting residents.”

Metropolitan Housing, which is renovating the area in Redwing Road, on Wallington's Roundshaw Estate, saw the lighter side of things.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Housing said: “Looking at this now, the design is certainly unfortunate so thanks to those who got in touch.

“We want to reassure residents we are listening, and will take the time to get it right.

“Together with the community, we look forward to creating a safe and fun outdoor space for children in the neighbourhood.”

The design has since been amended.
