A Holocaust survivor who spent "three years hiding in an underground well" has slammed people for complaining about staying home for two weeks during the coronavirus quarantine.
Connie Ansaldi, a journalist in Argentina, shared the touching moment when she visited her grandmother during a lockdown brought about due to COVID-19.
The journalist, furious at the attitude of people who won't self-isolate, posted a clip on social media earlier today which shows her having a profound conversation with her gran.
Connie says: "Tell people to stay at home! How many years did you hide in a well?"
Her grandmother replies: "Three years! Without bathing or anything."
When the elderly woman is asked if she thinks people are going to cope with staying at home, she says to her granddaughter: "There is no comparison."
Alongside the video, Connie wrote: “My grandmother (a Holocaust survivor) told me ‘I spent three years hiding in an underground well so they did not kill me and two years in the ghetto. Without bathing and almost no food. Can't people spend two weeks at home?'
“We talk a lot about what's going on. She is not afraid for herself but for us. Let's take care of our grandparents.
"Mine, everyone's. Those who are vulnerable and those who are healthy who may be affected. Everything has a solution except death. This is a war and the enemy is invisible.”
It is unclear where the grandmother was during the Holocaust, but many people emigrated to Argentina from Europe during the 20th century.
Connie shared the clip on her Instagram profile where she has 943,000 followers and also tweeted it out to get the important message across.
“Hug her and kiss her on my behalf,” wrote one of her fans.
“What a charming lady and very lucid considering the more than 90 years that I imagine she has,” wrote another follower in appreciation.
The Argentinian government has urged citizens in the country to stay at home and avoid social interaction and president Alberto Fernandez and his cabinet are considering a total quarantine.
