‘Zero prospect’ of London lockdown travel ban as pandemic spreads throughout UK

There is "zero prospect" of restrictions being enforced on travelling in or out of London, the government has said in response to rumours of a lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesman said on Thursday: "There is zero prospect of any restriction being placed on travelling in or out of London.

“It’s not happening.”

He said police would maintain responsibility for maintaining law and order and there were no plans to use the military for this purpose.

Up to 40 tube stations have been closed by Transport for London (TfL) to slow the spread of the the coronavirus.
