Spoon-bending phenomenon Uri Geller 'helped' Lionesses goalkeeper Mary Earps make a fantastic penalty save, but could not help them win the World Cup final, he claimed.

Mr Geller, 76, posted footage of himself channelling his psychic powers into his nine television screens as England and Spain battled it out in a closely-contested final.

Screaming "come on England" as he "saved" the penalty alongside Earps, who could be heard bellowing "f*** off" soon after saving the penalty, the pair gave hope to the Lionesses in the last few minutes.

But it was not to be, with the trailing England squad heading home empty-handed, despite the best efforts of the squad, management, and spoon-bender Uri.

Posting from what appeared to be the Batcave from Batman, Uri unleashed his mental magic on the screens broadcasting the World Cup final.

"She's not gonna score, I'm gonna stop it," Mr Geller can be heard saying, before a triumphant "yes" echoed throughout his massive man cave.

Deep within the confines of his penalty-saving underground lair, portraits of Elvis Presley, a collection of chairs and flash cars could be spotted.

Twitter users were delighted to see Uri had played his part in the World Cup final after all, with the Daily Star previously reporting he would intervene if needed.

One user joked Uri had put in a solid "assist" when Mary Earps saved the penalty.
