Get the biggest stories and wackiest takes from the Daily Star, including our special WTF Wednesday email<\/p>\n<p>We have more newsletters<\/p>\n<p>An explorer and videographer has visited an isolated community where the average height for an adult is well under five feet tall.<\/p>\n<p>Despite foraging in the forests of the Congo region and eating mole rats to survive, traveller Drew Binsky says the pygmy tribe are among the happiest people in Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Drew set out from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, and drove deep into the primal rainforest that has remained almost untouched since mankind first evolved.<\/p>\n<p><b> READ MORE: Missing millionaire &apos;spotted living with cannibal tribe&apos; in unearthed footage<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Less than 900,000 Pygmies are estimated to be living in the central African forests, with just over half of them in the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30873035.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/1_Pygmy-Village.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Drew, along with wife Deanna Sallao, ventured into the forest, accompanied by armed bodyguards because paramilitary rebel groups are known to roam the area.<\/p>\n<p>They were hoping to visit a village that Drew had visited before back in 2019. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a really a trek to get up here,\u201d Drew complained, \u201cbasically walking straight uphill with all of our stuff\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30869074.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/1_Screenshot_2023-09-05_at_140725.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30770817.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s458\/0_Grisly-solution-to-mystery-of-hockey-player-missing-for-over-14-years.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p> &apos;CIA spy&apos; sportsman vanished for 14 years \u2013\u00a0before mutilated body was found on ski slope<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The couple were treated to a spectacular welcome from the pygmies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany anthropologists think that pygmies are the direct descendants of late stone-age hunter-gatherers of the Central African rainforest and they evolved over 130,000 years ago,&quot; Drew explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemarkably, to this day the pygmies live a similar lifestyle as their ancestors \u2013 involving hunting dancing and singing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30869077.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/1_Screenshot_2023-09-05_at_135745.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article30752305.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s458\/1_killlller.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p> Terrifying night entire village dropped dead \u2013\u00a0with even flies falling victim<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The exuberant pygmies danced and sang for pretty much the whole of his visit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVarious theories have been proposed to explain why the average height of the pygmies is well under five feet tall for adults,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome say it&apos;s due to low ultra-violet light levels in the rainforest, resulting in low levels of vitamin D which limits our calcium intake for bone growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis also explains the evolution of their small skeletal size.
