Snaps of Kate Middleton and Prince William just days after Queen Elizabeth II’s death last year showed signs of a potential disaster for King Charles, a royal expert claimed.

The Princess of Wales and her husband travelled to the late Queen's Norfolk estate of Sandringham on September 15 last year to thank the public for their condolences as huge crowds were on hand to meet them.

The photographs from the event prompted royal expert Daniela Elser to believe these snaps early into King Charles’ reign could be a sign of him being “eclipsed” by the couple.

Images showed the future King and Queen smiling and talking to royal fans, who had journeyed from across the country to catch a glimpse of the Waleses.

The late Queen's eldest son had only been on the throne for just over a week at the time, as yesterday (September 8) marked one year since Her Majesty tragically died.

Although King Charles and Queen Camilla had positive receptions from the public, the early days also showed a number of small embarrassing public blunders – mostly involving fountain pens.

Elser said the King was already floundering just a week into the role as the Prince and Princess of Wales flourished in the public spotlight.
