More info<\/p>\n Shortly after the BBC ran a report claiming Mr Farage had been debanked because his balance had fallen below the \u00a31 million required for a Coutts account.<\/p>\n The BBC also reported Mr Farage\u2019s political views were not a factor in the closure of the account.<\/p>\n It later emerged the BBC\u2019s source had been the CEO of Natwest herself, Dame Alison Rose, who sat next to the reporter at a charity dinner the night before publication.<\/p>\n Mr Farage received his Subject Access Request back, confirming they had compiled a heavily political research document on him that fed into the decision to debank him.<\/p>\n Dame Alison Rose resigned as the Natwest chief on July 26, after Jeremy Hunt and Rishi Sunak revealed they could not support her amid the row.<\/p>\n The Government continues to own around 40 percent of Natwest shares due to the 2008 financial crisis and bailout, making the Chancellor\u2019s views about the bank\u2019s direction critical.<\/p>\n A day later, Coutts CEO Peter Flavel also resigned for his role in the row.<\/p>\n Mr Farage later said neither of them should receive the large golden handshake payouts they were expected to get.<\/p>\n The GB News presenter has subsequently taken up the cause of \u2018debanking\u2019 on behalf of ordinary Brits, many of whom are finding rules around \u2018politically exposed people\u2019 and businesses who deal in cash payments tricky to navigate.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/139\/590x\/secondary\/5010398.jpg?r=1697198296585\")
