<\/p>\nA spirited row broke out recently after an airline announced that it would be creating a child-free zone on some of its flights. Twitter (now known as X) users called the decision "sad" and "weird" while others celebrated being able to fly without hearing crying children. <\/p>\n
Most of us aren\u2019t massive fans of loud noises like kids screaming on a cramped plane however, there\u2019s little you can do when the poor mites are uncomfortable and tired. But one option to avoid it is booking an adults-only seat.<\/p>\n
This summer, Corendon airline announced it would ban all children and babies from the special "Only Adult" area on its A350 flights between Amsterdam and the Caribbean island of Curacao. Holidaymakers will be able to choose the kid-free cabin from November 3 2023. <\/p>\n

The special section will sit at the front of the plane and have nine XL seats which have extra legroom. There will also be an additional 93 normal seats in the child-free zone. It sounds ideal to separate out those who don\u2019t want to be around little ones during their flight \u2013 but some social media users thought the idea was outrageous. They claimed it showed that people had "little tolerance".<\/p>\n

The poster stated: "So apparently airlines are considering making \u2018child free zones\u2019 on planes and I can\u2019t decide if this is a dystopian shift or not, but generally it\u2019s really sad how little tolerance people have for children and babies \u2013 even acting like they shouldn\u2019t be in public." The post quickly went viral with thousands seeing it and over 100 people commenting on it. Some agreed with his point.<\/p>\n
One person said: "I\u2019ve noticed people seem more annoyed with kids in public than I\u2019ve ever seen before. Usually people see little kids and babies and smile or whatever but that\u2019s seeming to slowly change. It\u2019s weird and sad."<\/p>\n
Another added: "Having kids is already an isolating experience, before I had kids I never cared about other kids in restaurants or on airplanes. If they want people to reproduce, isolation for mums is not a good look."<\/p>\n
While another noted that child-free spaces were becoming more common in the travel industry. They wrote: "I\u2019ve literally seen apartments flat out say they don\u2019t accept tenants with kids. It\u2019s disgusting."<\/p>\n

However, others seemed infuriated by children being on their flights. One person said: "Excuse some of us for not being delighted to hear other people's crotch goblins shriek at the top of their lungs in a confined space. Instead of bemoaning how people react to children's poor behaviour, focus on teaching your kids how to behave in public."<\/p>\n
Another added: "Last time I was on a plane , I thought, \u2018I would pay more money to be on a plane without children\u2019 Almost every time I fly, which isn't much at all, there's a child crying the whole time."<\/p>\n
One more commented: "I think some of it is driven by changes in parenting. Like, when I was a teen a lot of kids seemed pretty well-behaved. But I see more and more young kids that are incredibly rambunctious and loud and the parents just sit there scrolling on their phones."<\/p>\n
Many couldn\u2019t decide who was in the wrong with one man adding: "I am on both sides on this one… If you have been on a plane with a toddler that the parents haven't prepped ear equalizing items for them, you might understand."<\/p>\n
Dutch carrier Correndon said: "This zone in the aircraft is intended for passengers travelling without children and for business travellers who want to work in a quiet environment. At the same time, the introduction of the Only Adult zone also has a positive effect for parents with children. They don't have to worry as much about possible reactions from fellow passengers if their child is a bit busier or cries."<\/p>\n

Seat reservations can be made in the child-free zone by anyone aged 16 and over. It will cost \u00a338 extra for a regular seat on top of your airfare and \u00a385 for an extra-large seat with legroom on top of your fare.<\/p>\n
Atilay Uslu, founder of Corendon, said: "On board our flights, we always strive to respond to the different needs of our customers. We are also the first Dutch airline to introduce the Only Adult zone, because we cater to travellers looking for some extra peace of mind during their flight.<\/p>\n
"We also believe this can have a positive effect on parents travelling with small children. They can enjoy the flight without worrying if their children make more noise."<\/p>\n
Recently, a parent was slammed after a video showed their child wearing aglow-in-the-dark outfit <\/b>on a red-eye overnight flight. The small child\u2019s costume not only glowed with multicoloured lights but also flashed with a strobe effect. Meanwhile another man was so infuriated by a crying baby that he shouted at flight attendants because the toddler had been crying for "45 minutes".<\/p>\n
