Rishi Sunak mocks Keir Starmer over ‘prepared lines’ for PMQs

Rishi Sunak could be facing “judgement day” soon if he fails to turn things around for the Conservative Party, a senior backbencher has warned as new polling reveals that Labour has increased its lead.

The weeking Techne UK tracker poll for Express.co.uk has seen Labour’s lead rise to 21 points over the Conservatives putting Sir Keir Starmer on course for a massive victory in the election next year.

According to the survey of 1,630 people, among those who have decided how they would vote 46 percent would support Labour (up 1), the Tories are on 25 percent (unchanged), the Lib Dems are on 11 percent (unchanged), Reform UK up 1 to 7 percent, and Greens unchanged on 6 percent.

If this were the result in a general election, the prediction website Electoral Calculus suggests that the Conservatives would be reduced to just 105 seats, their lowest ever in more than 300 years of history.

Meanwhile, Starmer would have a massive majority of 270.

The polling comes ahead of Mr Sunak hoping to reset his government with a new program in the King’s Speech in November.

There is also speculation that he could have another reshuffle to try to strengthen his top team.

However, senior backbenchers have warned that he now faces to major flash points which could decide whether colleagues trigger another leadership vote.

The first is a forthcoming court decision on whether illegal migrants can be deported to Rwanda.

If the court decision goes against the government the Prime Minister will face enormous pressure to opt out of the European Convention of Human Rights on the tackling illegal migration.
