Prince William and King Charles' relationship has quietly become fraught over the years thanks to their very different attitudes to the monarchy with William "taking prisoners", according to a new book.

The pair's tension was outlined in author Omid Scobie's latest biography Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival. The royal expert, dubbedPrince Harry and Meghan Markle's "mouthpiece", launched a flurry of fresh claims at the Firm today (Tuesday, November 28).

Scobie reckons the Prince of Wales "represents the monarchy's true next stage," while his dad – who has been on the throne since Queen Elizabeth II's death in September 2022 – is the "bridge to get there."

The commentator claims that while this unspoken fact is generally accepted by the Palace, the father-son duo's differing views on how the Royal Family should be run may have soured their rapport. "Distrust and simmering animosity between father and son are nothing new to their working relationship," Scobie wrote.

"A source close to William said, 'Though [Charles and William] share a number of passions and interests, their style of leadership is quite different.'"

Another insider told Scobie Charles is governed by his "head and his heart," while William is "colder" than his dad. "He just wants to get the job done and has no problem taking prisoners along the way," they said.
