The bodies of 18 people have been found in Greece following a devastating wildfire, authorities have revealed.

Greek authorities have confirmed the tragic remains were found in the northeast of the country after the region became engulfed in flames today (Tuesday, August 22).

The Brit holiday hotspot of Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands has also been affected by the wildfires which has seen hundreds of firefighters across the two countries struggle to get the blaze under control.

Hot and dry conditions and strong winds have caused wildfires to break out and spread across Greece over the last few days, prompting authorities to evacuate villages and a hospital in the port city of Alexandroupolis.

The northeast of the country has been hit hardest by the most recent blaze and the area is currently in its fourth day of ongoing fires.
