New weather maps show a huge storm vortex carrying 80mph winds hurtling towards the UK.
It comes as the Met Office has extended its ‘danger to life’ warnings, now covering 112 areas across Britain as Storm Agnes prepares to batter the UK.
The storm, currently charging towards Britain from the Atlantic, is due to wreak havoc on roads and railways from Wednesday afternoon, with the warnings in place until Thursday morning.
A spokesperson for the Met Office has said: “Storm Agnes will approach southwest Ireland early on Wednesday and track northeast across Northern Ireland and Scotland before clearing on Thursday morning.
“Whilst there is still some uncertainty in the exact track and depth of Agnes, gusts of 45-55 mph are expected widely inland and 50-60 mph over hills and around coasts.

“The strongest winds are expected to affect Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland, west and northwest Wales, Cumbria and Lancashire where some places inland may see gusts of 60 mph and 65-75 mph over hills and around coasts.
“These are most likely during the second half of Wednesday afternoon and through the evening.”
Forecasters are tracking ‘Angry Agnes’s’ course, which has been picked up by weather maps as a swirling vortex.
60-70mph winds are shown on the edges of the dramatic weather front, meanwhile the epicentre is bright red, marking wind gusts of more than 100mph.

The Met Office has warned that while most of Britain will be lashed by the storm, there are several key areas that will be particularly badly hit.
It says: “The likelihood of impacts has been increased, particularly across Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland, west and northwest Wales, Cumbria and Lancashire.”
