The beautiful little European city where it still reaches 24C in December

Cyprus is a well-travelled destination for holidaymakers seeking some Mediterranean sunshine. The island boasts miles of sandy beaches and is bursting with nightlife. Unknown to some, however, is the fact that the island continues to be blessed with warm weather well into December.

The forecast for Cyprus currently shows temperatures to reach highs of 24 degrees in the coming month. The warm weather is located around the pretty city of Larnaca. To top off its appeal, the city is best known for having a fine wine offering.

Tripadvisor recommends pairing a few glasses of local wine with the traditional mountain cuisine known as Troodos. Return flights to Larnaca Airport from London next week start from as little as £116 on easyJet, according to cheapflights.co.uk – while the average time in the air is around five hours.

A Tripadvisor review offers a comparison with another popular destination of Limassol, saying: “It depends what you are looking for as we all like different things. Larnaca without hesitation, it is nicer, people are friendly, less traffic.

“Limassol is busy, not nice (only Molo is nice). With the Forex, casinos and other shady businesses the atmosphere is very superficial.”

Elsewhere, Gran Canaria also offers temperatures in the mid-20s. The Spanish islands offer a delightful mix of beaches, bars and sunshine as well as little chance of rain. Weather forecasts over the coming week show the temperatures reaching highs of a very pleasant 24C.

This will be in stark contrast to Great Britain, which will be fighting to stay above freezing as the mercury plummets and the risk of snow deepens.

Next month’s forecast show that even in December the odds of sunny spells remain high with a possible 25C on Christmas Day.

This generally mild and subtropical climate has made Gran Canaria a popular all-year-travel destination.
