Top Russian general blown to bits after he ‘steps on landmine’ in Ukraine

A top Russian commander was killed in Ukraine after he was blown up by a landmine, according to reports.

Russian Major General Vladimir Zavadsky’s death was reported by the Ukrainian Colonel Anatoly Stefan on Telegram, citing several Russian social media sources. Daily Express US has not verified the report and Moscow rarely confirms when top military men are killed.

Zavadsky was the deputy commander of the 14th Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces and was blown up by a mine, according to the sources cited by Stefan. It was unclear whether the mine was Ukrainian or Russian.

The Colonel wrote on Telegram: “Successfully demobilized: Major General Vladimir Zavadsky – Deputy Commander of the 14th Army Corps. Death to enemies.”

If the reports are true, his death would mark the latest in a series of high-ranking Russian officers who have died in Ukraine.

The MoD said: “Since the start of October 2023, Russian forces have moved the front line forwards up to 2km in this area.

“Although modest, this advance likely represents one of the greatest Russian gains since spring 2023. It has cost the units involved thousands of casualties.”

In addition, the Ministry suggested that Russian forces had begun using RBK-500 bombs more frequently around Avdiivka.

These 500kg cluster bombs release 100 to 350 submunitions each of which spews shrapnel or contains a single anti-tank charge.
