Driver shares ‘genius’ and ‘game-changing’ cup holder method

Many drivers have experienced the difficulty and frustration of having to balance several drink cups that they got from the drive-thru when they are behind the wheel.

However, to avoid spills and potentially large fines, a social media user has shared a way that drivers can keep the drinks secure, even if they do not have enough cup holders in their car.

Jacob Lopez, who goes by the name @bogielopez89 on TikTok, posted a six second video in which he places four cups, held in a paper tray, into the two cup holders in the centre console of his car.

Whilst there were only two cup holders, the way they were placed meant that all four cups in the tray were secure, allowing Jacob to drive without worrying about spilling his drinks.

He asked: “Did you know these cup holders were meant for this?”

While the trick can help drivers avoid a sticky situation, keeping drink cups secure can help drivers avoid trouble with the law.

Holding or drinking whilst behind the wheel is considered driving without due care and attention, which can see motorists fined £100 and receive three penalty points on their licence.

However, a driver has an accident which the police consider was caused by holding the cups, a fine of up to £5,000 and nine penalty points could be issued.

Nevertheless, whilst over 1.1 million people have liked Jacob’s trick, and over 75,000 bookmarked the video, viewers were left divided by the idea.

Some drivers were amazed by the trick, with one motorist commenting: “Finally the fear of looking over on the passenger side seat every 10 seconds while driving to see if the drink is spilling is gone!”

Another added: “OMG, OMG, OMG, you, dude, are a genius!”

The official McDonald’s account replied: “I didn’t even know this.”

Another user added: “This is a game changer,” while a third wrote: “My mind is blown.”

However, other drivers casted doubt on the trick, with some stating that they nearly experienced a spill due to how the tray fits in their car.

One wrote: “Didn’t fit on my car! Almost had four drinks all over my seats!”

Another joked: “I tried it and failed… spent 30 minutes cleaning the car.”
