Scotland: Sharron Davies speaks out against SNP gender policy
The SNP has announced they will finally abandon attempts to introduce a controversial Gender Reform Bill that would have made it easier for trans people to change gender.
Earlier this month the Court of Session, Scotlandās highest court, sided with the UK Government, which vetoed the policy for the first time in devolution history.
Following their humiliating defeat, Scottish Ministers could have appealed the decision.
However today they confirmed they will not waste further taxpayer cash pursuing that route.
Speaking in Holyrood, Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said the Scottish Government continues to stand with trans people, but have accepted Rishi Sunakās Westminster administration will not budge.

Ms Somerville said it is āimpossible to see how progress can be madeā.
āOur offer is still there. If the current UK Government is willing to work together on this we will happily sit down with them. If a future UK Government are willing, we will do so with them so that the Section 35 can be lifted and the bill progresses.

While the SNP have conceded defeat in the short term, the minister let slip the partyās new strategy to lobby a potential Keir Starmer government to cave in and allow the bill to pass.

The confirmation that Humza Yousafās party is now relying on a sympathetic Labour Government in London to help them pass controversial plans sets Sir Keir up for a difficult political showdown.
The Labour Party has stated its commitment to make it easier for transgender individuals to transition, albeit with a pledge to protect single-space sexes.

However following Nicola Sturgeonās political troubles trying to get the Gender Recognition Bill through the Scottish Parliament, he flip-flopped, describing a woman as āan adult femaleā.
He also said Labour ādonāt think that self-identification is the right way forward. Weāve reflected on what happened in Scotlandā.
Labour is largely divided on the issue, with womenās rights campaigner Rosie Duffield MP accusing male Labour MPs of trying to shout her down in the Commons when she spoke in support of the Torysā decision to block the SNP gender bill.
The Guardian named Brighton MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle and Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw as the culprits, with Mr Russell-Moyle later apologising for his tone during the āemotional debateā.
