Pilot dies in second plane crash after miraculously surviving Amazon for 13 days

A pilot who was left stranded last year for 13 days after crashing his plane has been killed in a second crash.

Otávio Augusto Munhoz da Silva, 38, was flying over Brazil on August 28 when his plane plunged to the ground.

According to authorities, the plane he was piloting crashed in a forest outside the city of Pacaraima.

His body was discovered on Friday, and his cousin told authorities his corpse was underwater for five days.

The Civil Police have opened an investigation into the incident.

Munhoz da Silva was a private pilot and flew air taxis in the Boa Vista region, his family said.

The pilot had to walk for 13 days last year through the Amazon rainforest after crashing his jet in September 2022.

Two other passengers died in the incident, and Munhoz da Silva was found almost two weeks later.

He told authorities the plane had overheated before the engine failed, and that he tried to land near a river but ended up hitting the top of a tree.

Munhoz da Silva continued his work as a pilot until his fatal second crash in August.

He will be buried in his hometown of Londrina.
