Rishi Sunak has been mocked on social media after a video emerged him using a hammer in an extremely unusual fashion.

The Prime Minister visited The Emma White Jewellery Studio in Farsley, Yorkshire, on Thursday (November 23) and tried his hand with the tools. The visit was part of a meeting with small business owners in the region.

ITV News shared a video showing Sunak bashing a piece of jewellery with a hammer. Sounds pretty straight forward right? Well, perhaps not for the leader of our country.

Sunak opted for a bizarre hammering technique, twisting the tool at an angle and using the side of the head rather than the face. The employee next to him can be seen grinning before throwing out her arms and saying: "Come on!"

Predictably, the video has been shared on X (formerly Twitter) where the PM was met with ridicule. One comment read: "Tell me you've never seen a hammer before without telling me you've never seen a hammer before."

"Someone didn't do wood work at school with those hammer skills," another person said. A third said: "Only common people use hammers."

Some people thought the video was an apt representation of the current state of the Conservative Party. One said: "AI Prompt: Rishi Sunak hammering the final nail in the tory party coffin." Another joked: "Would explain the shoddy Cabinet."

Former culture secretary Nadine Dorries jumped in to mock her fellow Tory MP. She wrote: "Nooooo way !! What is he doing? Is this the first PM ever who has never seen a hammer, or paid for petrol, or filled up his own car?" The official Labour Party account chimed in with: "Rishi Sunak: not the son of a toolmaker."

However, after everyone had had their fun, another excerpt from the ITV News footage emerged showing Sunak being instructed to use the side of the hammer. The employee exclaiming "come on" appears to have been in reference to the fact that Sunak's hammering wasn't getting the job done.
